
Attendees will receive a course manual containing workshop proceedings and reference material.
This course provides a broad overview of air quality analysis as practiced in the US. After completing the course, participants will have gained an understanding of the basic terminology used in air quality analyses, will be familiar with the various interrelated aspects of air pollution control, and will have an excellent foundation for future endeavors in the air quality field. Topics covered include:
• Earth’s atmosphere and meteorological factors that influence ambient concentrations
• Sources of pollutants
• Regulatory efforts of federal, state, and local jurisdictions
• Measurement of pollutant emissions and concentrations
• Hands-on instruction on various California-based models used in air quality analyses, e.g. URBEMIS, CalEEMod, CALINE
• Cross-media pollutants and their health effects
The instructor will use a combination of techniques to present the information: classroom lecture, discussion of relevant case studies, and hands-on instruction on various models used in air quality analysis modeling.

Environmental professionals, planners, technicians, engineers, consultants, public officials, decision-makers, and others responsible for understanding and interpreting effects and implications of air quality impacts will benefit from this course, as will members of citizen's organizations who want to gain an in-depth understanding of air quality in order to develop technical skills necessary to review air quality reports.
